It’s been just over 2 years since community shopping centre investor Ellandi tamed the Tiger and bought Southampton’s Marlands Shopping Centre in a joint venture with Lonestar.
The first phase of the transformation was completed in November 2015 with the opening of JRC Global Buffet on the first floor of an ex Matalan unit, bringing a new lease of life to the scheme. In the year since opening, footfall on the first floor alone has seen an uplift of 20%.
Jonathan Robson, Director, Asset Management at Ellandi commented “We are delighted with the progress of the Marlands Shopping Centre. The scheme is really consolidating itself to be the value fashion offer in Southampton. We look forward to further leasing progress.”
All good community schemes need a varied mix of retailers and by working closely with the retained agents, Green & Partners, the centre has had an influx of new additions over the course of Ellandi’s ownership including Saltrock, Cards Direct, Evapo, Wed2B and Stakks Pancake House).
The success of the centre has also seen existing retailers continue to trade strongly with Romans, Yours, Shakeaway, Starbucks, Whittards and Shoe Zone recommitting to the scheme.
Ellandi’s expertise and proven track record have had a transformational effect on the Marlands Shopping Centre, with footfall across the entire centre benefiting from an uplift of 8%, proving that two shopping centres can happily co-exist in one town.
