IMPROVING SHOPPER EXPERIENCE

CHELMSLEY WOOD

Public realm works deliver a public square and revitalised shopping experience

Challenges:

Due to lack of investment over a number of decades and the outdoor nature of the Centre the public realm in Chelmsley Wood was tired and in poor condition which made for an unpleasant shopper experience

Strategy:

Engage with other placemaking professionals to design and implement a refurbishment of the public realm
Focus on a creating public spaces for the local community and improving the aesthetics of the public realm as well as improving sustainability and remedying long term maintenance issues

Solutions:

Public realm is now revitalised and a community space has been created by installing a public square complete with landscaping and street furniture
Feedback from the local community who are the centre’s core customers has been hugely positive, footfall has increased and a better shopper experience has been created
