The Swan Centre, Eastleigh announced today that it has just scooped a prestigious environmental award for the second year running at the annual Green Apple Environment Awards, held in London. This year, the Centre Management team walked away from the glittering presentation ceremony at the Houses of Parliament with a Green Champion Winner Award in Property and Estate Management for Energy Saving, the highest accolade in the category.

The Centre competed against more than 500 nominees within the Environmental Best Practice category and won the award for a 17.6 % reduction in electricity consumption, totalling 293,395 kWh.

Daniel Kitchen; Swan Centre Manager, and John Parker; Operations Manager, attended the presentation ceremony on Monday 6 November, where they received their Green Apple Champion trophy and certificate. ‘We were delighted to be recognized for our achievements in energy saving at the Green Apple Awards for the second year running, and to win the best in category it’s just amazing.’ said Daniel Kitchen. ‘Reducing the impact our Centre has on the environment will continue to be a strong focus for the whole team at the Swan Centre for 2018, as we look to introduce more energy efficient LED lighting throughout the malls next year.’

As a result of this Green Apple Award success, The Swan Centre has now been invited to have their winning paper published in The Green Book, the leading international work of reference on environmental best practice, so that others around the world can follow their example and learn from their achievement. They could also progress to represent their country in the Green World Awards, and the European Business Awards for the Environment.

The Green Apple Awards began in 1994 and have become established as the country’s major recognition for environmental endeavour among companies, councils, communities and countries.

The Green Apple Awards are supported by the Environment Agency, the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health, the Chartered Institution for Wastes Management and other independent bodies.
