Community Shopping Centre Investors Ellandi have signed a 15-year lease with Xersise4Less at Middleton Shopping Centre, Middleton.
The low-cost gym operator has taken 35,000 sq ft of previously dead space on the centre’s first floor which will be accessed via the mall.
The works will involve £500,000 of landlord investment to develop the space which was made available as part of reconfiguration works which involve removing a set of escalators and reintroducing them into the central core.
This will be met by a further investment of £1.2 million by Xersize4less to achieve its high standard of fit out.
Centre Manager Lynette Howgate commented, “Historically schemes like ours have had much smaller units, so it’s great to see how with a little imagination, we have been able to make use of the space in order to deliver the unit size required by Xersize4less whilst also considerably improving the circulation within the scheme.”
Asset Manager Tim Cornford added, “Gyms have become an expectation as part of the core offer within shopping centres. Community Shopping Centres in particular, typically benefit from a local catchment of 10 minutes with most users visiting them daily; so it’s easy to see why they’re such a good fit. It’s a win-win providing increased dwell time, improved footfall and a revitalised feel to the scheme.”
