Works starts on Walnuts retail and leisure extension

Ellandi and Miller Developments have started work on a 50,000 sq ft extension to the Walnuts Shopping Centre in Orpington.The project involves the demolition of a 15,500 sq ft former job centre located at Crown House and the building of a 50,000 sq ft extension to the scheme which will include a seven-screen multiplex cinema, prelet to Odeon, three restaurants and four shops.
The external market stalls are being consolidated within College Square and Walnut Square is being reconfigured and upgraded. The development is scheduled for completion in early 2014.
The mall is owned by Garden Property CH Ltd and asset managed by Ellandi. Miller Developments is the development manager.
Mike Wimble at Ellandi, said: “The demolition of the existing Crown House confirms our on-going commitment to rejuvenate Orpington town centre. Since taking ownership of the Walnuts, we have completed new lettings to Love Coffee and All Bags and refurbished a number of units ready for new tenants to occupy. We have also recently launched a free Wi-Fi service in partnership with The Cloud.”
Prime Retail and Kitchen La Frenais Morgan are the letting agents at the scheme.
