Plans to revamp Chelmsley Wood Shopping Centre have been approved by Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council.
An application for the refurbishment was lodged by Stanley Bragg Architects on behalf of client Ellandi Ltd in October 2016.
They proposed the created of a tree-lined boulevard along the main shopping street, Greenwood Way, as well as the construction of a permanent fabric canopy.
The canopy will provide shelter for shoppers and will also be used for public seating, small events and stalls. New lighting across the centre will also be installed.
The plans were given the nod by Solihull council earlier this week (9 January 2017) subject to the work beginning within three years.
Chelmsley Wood Shopping Centre provides more than 460,000 sq ft of floorspace and is home to the likes of Wilko, Peacocks, New Look, Sports Direct, Boots, Argos and Iceland.
