“If you’re selling stuff, you’re knackered, frankly.” Not so long ago, those words might have got backs up at Retail Week Live.

But not anymore. Now, there is an acknowledgement that retail has to change. But what to exactly – and how to get there – is still very much up for debate. That pronouncement by Pets at Home chief executive Peter Pritchard formed part of a panel on how to make Amazon’s dominance into your biggest opportunity. Amazon is one highly disruptive force in retail. But so too are marketplaces, the falling value of property, technology, sustainability and the changing workforce.
