We Halved the Cost of Parking In St Austell- Will The Public Respond?
1st Oct 2012
The cost of parking is a very emotive issue in all town centres and has been consistently sighted as a major reason for many of the problems of St Austell town centre.
So we've put our money where our mouth is and as soon as was practical, taken a surrender of the ludicrous APCOA lease and slashed up to 50% off the tariffs. This could cost us around £75,000 per annum.
Additionally we will apply a flat rate of £1 for unlimited parking after 4.00pm. This will not only promote the night time economy, but also help hard pressed families who want to pop in to shop after the school pick up.
The big question is "Will the shoppers respond?" or is the cost of parking a catch all excuse or fig leaf to cover town centre's deeper problems.
It will take some time to determine, but we passionatley hope that this brings people back to St Austell and also that occupiers will respond to our efforts to make town centres a more attractive location to do business.
We will let you know how we get on.
