Third Time Lucky for the Octagon Shopping Centre

Ellandi has achieved planning permission to convert the entire first floor of the Octagon Shopping Centre, Burton on Trent into a gym.
Prior to Ellandi’s involvement, a similar application was refused and a second application, which was submitted in January, received a recommendation for refusal and was subsequently withdrawn.
The permission is for a change of use from A1 to flexible A1/D2 use on the first floor to house a 30,000 sq. ft. gym; pre-letting negotiations are well advanced.
Ellandi, who were brought on as asset managers of the scheme in February submitted a fresh application in April, citing case studies from their Middleton Shopping Centre which saw a 15% increase in footfall and 2 units occupied as a result of a new to Exercise4Less of a similar size.
Asset Manager Ruth Duffield commented “We are delighted to have been granted planning permission for these works that have been discussed for some time. This is will be a great amenity for the town and will see enhanced footfall throughout the Octagon Centre.
Working with our planning consultants Williams Gallagher, our track record and experience was a fundamental part of this success. This allowed us to demonstrate the positive impact a gym can have, starting a new chapter for the Octagon Shopping Centre.”
